Gif-tastic Timemorphosis: East River State Park

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

We spotted this image in a "historic Williamsburg" book recently and immediately recognized two features in the old photo:

1. The utility pole with the three metal tabs pointing south.

2. The distinctive scoop-end of the short concrete wall peeking out just to the right of the horse's head.

Both items remain intact in the recently-opened East River State Park; but as you can see, nearly everything else has changed.

If you're curious about the park's history, we've posted about it couple of times before:

Thanks! Images of America: Williamsburg. Victor Lederer and the Brooklyn Historical Society. Barnes & Noble has it.

Guessing you took the "now" shot... How long did it take to line up to the right spot? How many photos went by the wayside for one reason or another? While standing there, looking at the old photo, do you feel a particular connection to the past?

This is way sweet!

had the book and my lovely assistant standing by...shot maybe 5 or 6 pics and cropped the best one.

i always have that feeling - that connection with the past - once i know the history of a place. its the buffalo thing again, but here in brooklyn its much the same.
